Luxury Interior Design Firm Sheffield House Design (formerly Victoria Sheffield Interior & Exterior Design) has won two coveted ASID Ruby Awards in the 2024 competition.

The first, for Residential Small Firm – Living Room, brought new life to a 2004 residence that worked well with its historic neighbors on the outside, but the interior lacked details befitting the ornate era the home was meant to honor.

Firm founder Victoria Sheffield explains, “In order to create a relaxing parlor for the homeowner, a medical professional, to unwind, we prioritized artwork from the jazzy city where she completed her residency and pieces of her existing furniture to retain the familiarity she was comfortable with. Minty blue ceiling lattice work walls contrast with bold tones in the art, rug, and furniture, while soft pastels keep leather and cowhide from becoming too masculine, and an acrylic table allows the rug to shine. Finally, the traditional curves of a wingback chair contrast with an acrylic, a weighted pendant with a slight touch of steampunk!”

The second award, for Residential Small Firm – Dining Room, transformed a 1963 original build with a small formal dining room which was rarely used. The new dining location moved out of the traditional footprint and into the larger adjoining family room, as the former dining room space was incorporated into the kitchen.

According to Sheffield House Design Director Imelda Escatell,  “The relocation fulfilled this young family’s desire for a large table not just for dining but also; crafting, entertaining, and a hub for their school age daughter’s homework. At the same time, opening the floorplan created increased natural light, and allowed for a comfortable banquette design with display shelving and hidden storage for board games and school supplies.”

Discussing the finishes and fabrics, Escatell says, “The deep built-in banquette was upholstered in antibacterial, water repellant textured faux leather for durability, and contrasted beautifully with custom accent pillows featuring unique Japanese kimono fabric. A marble and ebony wood table makes an elegant statement between charcoal gray while a swirling pendant light in pink wood veneer adds a touch of mod whimsy.”
